At long last I can post pictures of my first guitar to this forum. Its definitely a first effort, but it sounds better than any guitar I have ever owned.

It is made from the LMI Standard kit with the only modification being the rosewood binding:

sitka spruce top
sapele b/s
mahogany neck
EI Rosewood fb, headplate, end graft and binding

I started out the process using Cumpiano's book then got Robbie O'brien's DVD. I strongly recommend the DVD to my fellow novice builders.

I owe a huge "Thank You" to the people who contribute to this forum. This was my first real woodworking project and I might have turned it into firewood several times if not for the advice found here.

Very nice guitar Wayne. If you hadn't told us..I wouldn't have guessed it was your first. A kit is the best way to get started. It gives you a good idea of the fundamentals and what parts are involved. Now it's time to start one from scratch. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Hesh. I forgot to mention the finish.

I used the System 3 epoxy with silica for pore filling then brushed on KTM-9. I burned through in a couple of places when leveling, but I was able to repair it with more KTM-9 diluted with alcohol.

The humidity here is pretty low for this time of year. So far I haven't seen any cracks, but I am going to try one of those humidifiers that fit in the soundhole.

You are hooked now...it is the sound of the first that makes the second and third irresistible. Kits are a great way to go as everything is there...when you think of it there is little difference between a builder in a factory shop grabbing pre-machined parts and assembling a guitar and you building one from a kit.

DVDs such as Robbie O'brien and John Mayes are invaluable and it always helps to be able to talk or listen in on others through forums like this to keep you going when you get discouraged or at a decision point and need advise.
